Voxelgrams 2 is a “Picross 3D” analogue where you complete number-based puzzles in three dimensions. In order to do so, you look at rows and columns and see how many “right” cubes there are alongside them, sometimes needing to keep things like empty spaces between them in mind, until you discover the object that hid inside the mass of blocks. It’s a pretty neat game!
There isn’t much to say about this game, really, because it does exactly what it says on the tin; You solve puzzles and move on to the next one until you complete all of them in a ‘category’. I like how they are divided in scenes and once you solve them all you see what it looks like. The voxel style is pretty cool! That being said, some puzzles really do not look like what the game claims it is. I think this is because overall, this game is pretty easy, I didn’t get to real head scratching puzzles with a massive number of blocks that required me to think a lot before making a move, but that might be okay! There isn’t a penalty for messing up, so you’re just going through the puzzles in a chill manner.
The only real issue I had is that most of the time, when I used the scroll wheel to get ‘into’ the puzzle (which you need to do because it’s in three dimensions), the wrong axis was selected and I had to fidget around with the camera until the axis I wanted was impacted. It’s not a huge deal, but it happened pretty consistently, and it was a mild annoyance during an otherwise pretty good play experience.
Ultimately, if you enjoy Picross games (and I’m a huge fan of the 3DS ones myself), Voxelgrams 2 will scratch the itch. I could’ve had more puzzles to go through if I had bought Voxelgrams 1 and its accompanying DLC, but it wasn’t the case, and after 250 puzzles (which took about 11 hours to complete), I was done!
