Million Onion Hotel is a stylish Match-3 like game where you tap on onions, fruits and a bunch of other weird things to get a combo multiplier going and progress through some levels. I couldn’t understand how to play it and lost interest pretty quickly after a few boss fights where my time was just drained constantly. Quirky story segments, collectibles and a bunch of different mechanics layered on top of each other couldn’t get me to put more time into it, sadly.

This review is part of a “drought of iOS games I actually care about and I really should subscribe to Apple Arcade I guess” series of reviews.

The basic concept of the game is simple, you tap on things on-screen and they color their square red; When a row, a column or a diagonal is colored, you get points and a time bonus. Some -things- you can tap on move around, others trigger special bonus times where you can rack up a ton of points and time. After you get your score high enough, you fight a boss that will hurt you and make you lose time - if it gets to 0, the game is over, and you have knights to damage the boss… somehow. It isn’t very clear.

Between levels, there are “interesting” cutscenes about the goings-on at the hotel, and you get interesting flavor text from the various items you manage to collect. It’s an interesting game for sure, but I really couldn’t get into it.
