Wilmot’s Warehouse at first felt like it was supposed to be a zen game about re-organizing items in a warehouse and trying to figure out the optimal ways to place your stock, but it just devolved quickly into a stressful mess for me. I really enjoy the minimalist style and the core idea of what the game is trying to do, but I dropped it off quickly because being under time pressure to fulfill orders just wasn’t for me.

I still found the game very charming; You have trucks that deliver a large assortment of items to you depending on your available products, then you have as much time as you want to organize your warehouse. You can do this any way you want, which lets every player creatively make the best of their analytic brain. I did it by item background color! The controls work okay on mobile but I fought with them a bit, your character can carry a few items at once, but your movement speed drops when you’re carrying too much, upgrades help to mitigate this.

Then, the delivery phase starts, and you have a specific amount of time to find specific items and bring them to the counter at the top of the warehouse. At first it wasn’t too bad because I had only a few items, but it quickly got very stressful and un-fun, at least for me, especially because you are timed. The time you have left after you fulfilled all your orders gives you stars that you can then use to buy upgrades such as giving you more space in the warehouse, allowing you to run faster and carry more blocks. Then between ‘years’ you get more products to place, so your organizing strategy gets stretched a bit by new items, and the cycle goes on.

I wish the game kept its zen-like feel all along. A game about organizing a warehouse seemed like a really interesting thing, but having to run around under time pressure broke my enjoyment of it. That’s just not my cup of tea, and I suppose it might be more of yours! This game is really charming, so give it a try if you enjoy inventory management and blocky puzzles!
